The Practice
The Practice
The Origins & Anchor
foundations of this practice
It all started with simple feelings of care and genuinity; to create a holding space which was open, non-exploitative and explorative. To build a container which would facilitate an odyssey into the depths of the human condition. To make room for work which was more of meaning making rather than fixing. And chose to call the space "Nahr".
The anchor that keeps the practice grounded in its value is its name, Nahr.
"Nahr" means river in the Arabic Language. River represents a flow, akin to the flow of emotions, experiences, and thoughts. Just like the river, we all have our unique ecosystem, flowing through the rough & tough, some things buried, some floating atop; it sometimes gushes, sometimes remains calm, but always resilient and adapts to change. I believe, rivers are centre of politics, where it all begins (began), where communities first settle, and thus begin the politics. Rivers also house few foundations of environmental politics and eco-justice, and this fight, must never stop. Choosing the arabic language is a homage to Nahr Al-Urdunn, the river of Palestine, which represents resistance to the oppressors, reslience of individuals and communities, and liberation for all, all the values on which Therapy Nahr stands!
Therapeutic Approach
What holds this practice
An integrative psychoanalytic frame, practiced with existential and liberationist lenses—this essentially means, therapy with me is long term and depth-oriented. Together, we explore the whys, the meaning - to understand your personhood. There would be a great emphasis on our therapeutic relationship as it influences your therapy journey. You can expect a non-directive, non-hierarchical space which is Queer & Neurodivergent Affirmative. The practice follows an anti-oppressive method, which is caste and class conscious, and understand the socio-political aspect of your struggles.
We would be a good fit if you're looking for long term work based on talk therapy, that helps you gain insights and shifts your perception. We may not be a good fit if you are looking for quick-fixes, solution-focused therapy or specific behavioural outcomes.
When I'm Not A Therapist
I have laid out my credentials, my therapeutic approach, and the values that hold this practice and me. Here is a bit about who I am, as a person!
I am a neurodivergent (ADHD) woman in my late twenties! I love it the most when I'm drinking a hot cup of coffee, while my cats are running around the room or just come snuggle up near me, my most mornings look like that. I am an artist at heart, who loves arts, crafts, painting, dancing, and dressing up. I love books, bookshelves, and the smell of an old book. I like to read, mostly politics, but also almost any genre. I also enjoy watching movies and shows, I'm fascinated with different characters, stories, and I find comfort in these little creeks of fiction. I cherish learning a lot, I believe, there's always something new to learn, to know, to experience, to feel, to share. In a former life I've been an environmental activist, a fashion designer, a marketing manager, content writer & creator, and a podcaster; parts of which I still carry. So no, psychology was never my "obvious" choice, but rather a conscious decision. I like to think that all the things, all the people I tried to become, eventually helped me arrive, here, in the therapist's chair.
